Conditions Optimales
Description
At an altitude of 1630 meters with a height difference of 1200 meters, this paragliding site in Bad Reichenhall, Germany, is highly popular and offers excellent cross-country (XC) flying opportunities.
The preferred launch site is Hochschlegel, facing west. You can reach it either by cable car or on foot, with a 20-minute walk from Schlegelmulde along the lift route. Note that there is no direct line of sight to any landing zones from the launch sites. It's crucial to decide on your flight route before takeoff, as losing too much altitude while searching for thermals at Hochschlegel often necessitates an emergency landing at Saalachsee. Thermals are most easily found directly at the summit of Predigtstuhl or eastward at Dreisesselberg. The valley wind comes from the east.
Two flight routes are available:
1. After takeoff, turn right over the chairlift cables and Schlegelmulde into the valley towards the landing zone (beware of lee conditions in strong west winds).
2. Fly straight ahead, then past the west side of the hotel slope (left of the mountain station) and, with sufficient altitude, over Saalachsee and Bürgermeisterhöhe to Weitwiese.
Predigtstuhl, part of the Lattengebirge massif, is accessible by cable car and is suitable only for experienced pilots due to its complex wind conditions and challenging launch sites. Guest pilots should consider this when choosing their flying area. The club does not charge any start or landing fees; maintenance is funded by club member contributions.
Flight regulations at Predigtstuhl:
- No starts outside the approved, windsock-marked launch sites.
- No landings outside the approved areas.
- Starts only in good weather conditions.
Additional information is posted at the valley station notice board.
Zwieselalm, located opposite, is even better suited for cross-country flights but requires a walk-and-fly approach. The launch direction here is west, and it is a 15-minute walk from Schlegelmulde along the lift route to Hochschlegel.

Please note that Predigtstuhl is not a training slope. Despite the convenience of the cable car, the unpredictable wind conditions and difficult launches make it unsuitable for beginners. However, for those who can handle these challenges, the Lattengebirge offers rewarding flying experiences.
