This flying area is quite interesting but only in the summer. It is located directly on the Flims-Fiesch race route. If you want to get to know this route, a visit to this flying area is certainly worthwhile.
There are various take-off sites in the area, generally facing south and ranging from moderately to steeply sloped. The area is occasionally used for training, indicating its thermal activity. Many pilots gain altitude over Trun along the Flims-Fiesch route.
Flight:
After take-off, pilots typically try to connect to the Flims-Fiesch race route. Otherwise, you can glide down into the valley and find a landing spot near Trun. There is no official landing site, so aim to land on paths or mowed fields. Be mindful of wildlife protection zones.
Valley winds are generally not problematic, although they can reach up to 30 km/h in summer. However, they can be turbulent due to thermal activity, so caution is advised.
Avoid flying during Föhn conditions, strong north winds, or generally strong winds from the north.
Be aware of the air route over Disentis, with a lower limit at 3950 m. Do not fly into this airspace.
For wildlife protection zones, please check the latest information.
Maintain a minimum distance of 300m from the terrain at Piz Ner, Val Frisal, and Frisal.
Starting point: From Caltgadira, you can reach one of the take-off sites with a 1-2 hour hike. Directions: Drive from Campliun to Caltgadira/Trun, then hike to the Platta Cotschna take-off site. The take-off area is a moderately steep grassy hill.
