Located in the heart of the Bernese Alps, the paragliding site near Meiringen, Switzerland, offers a fantastic experience for pilots. The launch site is at an elevation of 2240 meters and is easily accessible via a short walk from the cable car station, either from Meiringen or Hasliberg-Reuti. The launch area is a large meadow, providing ample space for takeoff.
The site is known for its excellent cross-country potential, with multiple launch options available. You can start from the main site or choose alternative spots 100 meters to the northeast or 400 meters to the southwest. The launch direction is primarily west, and the difficulty level is rated as easy.
The region boasts stunning panoramic views and reliable thermals, making it one of the top ten paragliding areas in Switzerland. However, weather conditions can change rapidly, so it's crucial to avoid flying during Bise or Föhn winds. Be cautious of the strong valley winds, especially near the landing zone at Aareschlucht.
For landing, it's recommended to head towards Meiringen train station first to avoid surprises from the valley wind. After that, you can turn towards the designated landing area. Be aware that the wooded hills near Meiringen can create lee-side turbulence in strong valley winds, so avoid flying too low over them.
Popular cross-country routes from this site include Susten Pass, Gotthard, Grimsel to Wallis, and Brünig-Lungern-Emmetten. Always be mindful of the Föhn and Bise winds.
The site is operational year-round, but during military flight times (Monday to Friday, 0730-1205 / 1315-1710), flying in the MIL-CTR Meiringen is only allowed with prior coordination and constant radio contact with the flight service leader.
