This site, located 15 miles from central London, is primarily used for local soaring and is accessible to members only.
To access the take-off area, park on Clarks Lane in the lay-bys. On the south side of the road, a small footpath leads down to the gate and fence line of the site. A daily fee of £5 is required for entry. The take-off area is a large, flat, open grassland suitable for pilots of all levels, with the best take-off spot in the middle of the field. Be mindful of the public footpath running along the back of the take-off area.
Due to local airspace restrictions both behind and in front of the site, a local site brief with an experienced pilot is advisable. The maximum height allowed is 2500ft (762m) above sea level.
For landing, both top slope and bottom landing options are available. Be cautious of cattle and thin electric wire fences in the bottom landing field, as well as trees that can cause turbulence. If top landing, be aware of the public footpath along the tree line and be courteous to onlookers.
The site is close to the junction of the M25/A22, with local landmarks including Biggin Hill Airport and Croydon. Car parking is available for 10+ cars.
This is a members-only site, and the landowner, who is a club member, conducts checks to ensure only members fly here. All pilots must be qualified and members of Green Dragons. Daily or yearly site membership is available, with a daily fee of £5 payable via PayPal to fly@greendragons. Keep your confirmation email as a receipt. Non-members will be asked to leave.
The site is best flown in a south or south-southeast wind direction, with a steady wind of 10-15 mph being ideal. Be cautious of turbulence caused by trees if the wind is off.
Airspace regulations are strict, with Biggin Hill airspace 300m behind take-off and Gatwick airspace 1.5 miles out front. Use up-to-date air maps and be mindful of airspace restrictions.
