Description
Located in the Liguria region of Italy, the Ospedaletti paragliding site offers a unique flying experience. The takeoff point, Decollo del Pianoro, is situated at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level with a west/southwest exposure. The best wind direction for soaring is from the southwest, making it ideal for both regular flights and cross-country (XC) possibilities.
To reach the takeoff, you can either use the shuttle service or drive your own vehicle, followed by a 15-minute hike. The launch site is accessible from Ospedaletti via Coldirodi towards San Romolo. After a scenic hairpin turn, a short walk will lead you to the starting point.
Thermal flying over the bay is common, and on days when the wind from the sea becomes too strong, you can move to a lower launch site. Popular destinations for flights include the beaches of San Remo, Bordighera, Monte Bignone, and Monte Ceppo.
Due to ongoing construction, there is currently no official landing site. Be cautious of strong winds and adverse weather conditions. It's recommended to start flights around midday, as afternoon winds can make launching difficult.
For those interested in walk and fly, Monte Caparo and Monte Bandido are accessible with a 20-minute hike from the mountain road above Coldirodi. The path to Monte Carparo is steep, while the route to Monte Bandido is more gradual.
The local paragliding club, Ponente Flight Volo Libero, meets at the former beach bar in Ospedaletti. For guidance on weather conditions and flying advice, contact Enzo Mamone at +39 340 475 1905. The club also provides transportation to the launch site with a 4WD vehicle.
Accommodation is available at the Villaggio dei Fiori campsite in San Remo, which is conveniently located 10 minutes by bus from the meeting point.
Monte Nero, with a vertical drop of 540 meters, and Bandito are popular flying mountains in the area. Monte Nero is particularly suitable for evening flights with reliable wind conditions and for experienced pilots proficient in reverse launching.
