Description
This site is frequently used for soaring, with the possibility of cross-country (XC) flights. It is primarily a thermal site from February to the end of October, making it unsuitable for beginners.
I discovered this location while searching for alternatives to Ås and Brattås. The landowner mentioned it was an old hang gliding site from the 90s. It is located near the Varberg N exit along road 41 towards Veddige. The launch area at the top is framed by juniper bushes, and the land below is fallow, providing ample landing spots.
The mountain has a great profile, perfect for ridge soaring while waiting for the right thermal conditions. The airspace above is 1370 meters, increasing to FL95 a few kilometers eastward. From there, you can head towards Värnamo and beyond, with virtually unrestricted airspace up to Lammhult, which is about 130 km inland.
Please note that the entire mountain and the land below are private property. Parking is limited, so it's best to park at Statoil/McDonald's and carpool to the site. There is a small forest road made of old bricks along the gravel road where you can park, but make sure to leave space for tractors to pass.
To the south, on the next hill, lies Brattås, where there are several farms with skittish competition horses. Do not fly in that direction. The pastures are marked in red on the map. Avoid flying over them unless you are at least 500 meters high. Flying too close may cause the horses to panic and run through the fences, leading to unpleasant and costly consequences.
Respect the landowner, as we have limited flying sites in Halland and are not welcome at Ås or Brattås due to previous lack of consideration towards horse owners and landowners.
