Description
Oberrieden, Switzerland
Oberrieden is a beautiful paragliding site located directly on Lake Zurich. It is particularly popular when the Bise wind at Üetliberg is too strong. The view of Lake Zurich from here is unique and simply stunning. However, Oberrieden is a challenging site. Pilots must be proficient in reverse launching, and the landing is far from easy. Additionally, the airspace must be considered due to the proximity of the airport.
The take-off area is a large field just above a small road. This site is only flyable when the Bise (easterly wind) is blowing, with wind speeds between 15-25 km/h. During strong Bise conditions, you can enjoy wonderful flights and moderate altitude gains. However, you must adhere to the TMA Zurich airspace restrictions, with a maximum flight altitude of 1350m.
If the Bise is too weak, you will inevitably sink and have to land below the small road on one of the smaller fields, sometimes between trees. If the Bise is too strong, launching should be avoided as you may be drifted over the highway, making top landing nearly impossible.
Top landing is generally recommended, although the approach is considered difficult. For landing with a slight N/NW wind, descend over the trees to the right of the launch site (rest area) and land on the field. This may only be possible with big ears. For landing with a NE wind, approach from the direction of Zurich.
In case of weak wind, Baldern/Balderen (Uetliberg, Albis) can be a viable alternative.
Strictly follow the instructions of the site operator [Parazuerich](http://www.parazuerich.ch/). Do not park on the small gravel path leading from the road to the barns, as this has caused significant issues with the landowner. Only park on the edge of the paved road.
