Conditions Optimales
Description
The launch site is located in Nassau, on the opposite side of the Lahn River. It faces northwest with an elevation difference of approximately 200 meters. The launch area is relatively steep but sufficiently large, making it suitable for beginners. The landing field is also spacious.
This site is occasionally used for soaring and cross-country flights. Top landing is not possible or permitted. The launch site is situated in a forest clearing near the radio mast on Nassauer Berg, heading towards Singhofen, close to the Nassauer Berg viewpoint hut.
Nassau is ideal for light wind days. During such conditions, you can find large, calm afternoon and evening thermals around the school center and Leifheit area. Instead of ridge soaring, look for thermals further out.
The launch site is very steep, so reverse launches are recommended. Be cautious of rotor turbulence in the launch area during side winds. Avoid flying in strong west winds as the entire area is in the lee of Burgberg, even if the wind seems favorable at the launch site.
Access:
From Koblenz, follow the Lahn Valley along the B260 towards Singhofen. From Limburg, follow the B417. After the Nassau train station, turn left onto the B260. After the railway crossing and before the Lahn, turn left to reach the swimming pool with parking spaces. Cross the Lahn on foot and follow the B260. In the Scheuern district, take the first left and follow the Lahntalradweg, which leads directly to the landing field.
From the landing field to the launch site:
On foot: Head towards the B260, leave the paved path before the first houses, and follow the zigzag path up through the forest. The first right turn is hard to spot; look for remnants of an old bench and two stone steps. Follow this path and take the first left. Shortly after, you will walk below the launch site.
By car: Follow the B260 towards Singhofen until the terrain opens up and a field becomes visible. Turn left onto the field path. After a few meters, you will find a hiking parking lot. Park here and walk to the launch site.
The distance from the swimming pool to the launch site is roughly the same as from the hiking parking lot over the plateau to the launch site. Walking directly up is recommended.
