Description
Cochrane Hill, located in Alberta, Canada, is a popular paragliding site just a short drive from Calgary. Owned and maintained by Muller Windsports, it serves as their primary training hill and offers excellent soaring opportunities.
Access: From Highway 1A, turn west onto Big Hill Road and drive approximately 1.75 km. Turn left when you see the sign. New pilots must receive a site orientation and sign a yearly waiver before kiting or flying. A valid HPAC membership is required.
Launch: The ridge site allows for straightforward launches. Pilots typically launch on the west side of the ridge when winds favor the southwest and on the east side when winds favor the southeast. Be aware of ridge right-of-way rules and set up closer to the edge when winds are high to avoid rotor.
Landing: Top landing at the ridge is ideal. If top landing is not possible, there is ample space at the bottom. Ensure you land within the property boundaries to avoid neighboring lands.
Airspace: The site is designated Class F airspace, directly east of the Springbank Control Zone. A NOTAM is required before flight. The ceiling of the Class F airspace is at 6,500 ft ASL. Above that, you enter the YYC Terminal Control Area.
XC Options: Cross Country flying is not permitted from this site due to surrounding prohibited airspace. Enjoy cruising the ridge and landing at the top.
Site Amenities: The Muller Windsports Flight School offers a bathroom, picnic table, and a mini-fridge with refreshments. The local shop sells equipment and Muller Windsports merchandise.

Takeoff: The altitude at the top is 1288 meters (4225.5 feet). The south-facing hill is flyable in wind directions from the east, south, and west. The grassy launch location is well-maintained and has a gradual slope for easy takeoffs.
