Standing at 1064 meters with a height difference of 644 meters, it is regularly used for thermal soaring and cross-country flights, particularly in the SSW or WSW directions. The site is open from mid-May to late October. The ideal wind direction for flying is East, but NE to SSE winds are also possible. The launch type is a slope, and the launch altitude is 3480 feet above sea level. The primary landing zone for hang gliders is Amy's Field, located at coordinates 42.659842, -73.102316, with a vertical descent of 2760 feet. Paragliders typically land at Greylock Glen, at coordinates 42.628215, -73.138899, with a vertical descent of 2300 feet. Access to the launch site is via a 2WD paved road, open from dawn to dusk. There is a $5 fee per car on weekends and holidays, with season passes available. Directions to the site include taking Route 8 from Pittsfield or Route 2 from Boston. Pilots must sign in at the parking hut each flying day and sign a permit/waiver once per calendar year. Top landings are prohibited, and commercial tandem flights are not allowed. The site is rated for advanced pilots (H4/P4), but intermediates (H3/P3) may fly under the direct supervision of a qualified USHPA Observer, Examiner, or Advanced Instructor.
