Description
Matakatia Bay offers a pleasant coastal soaring experience on the Whangaparoa Peninsula, serving as an alternative to the Easterly site at the peninsula's end. The site is best flown in an East-Southeast (ESE) direction. It is situated in a public reserve on Tiri Road, between houses 75 and 77.
For landing, you can either use the southwest end of Matakatia Bay or opt for a top landing at the take-off (TO) point. The ideal wind directions for flying here are East and Southeast.
There are no mandatory notices or restrictions for this site. However, be cautious of overhanging Pohutukawa trees and avoid beach landings below the take-off point when the tide is in. The flight ceiling is set at 2,500 feet above sea level (ASL).
The site operates on radio channel 20, frequency 476.900MHz. There are no specific access conditions to be aware of.
For any site-related queries, you can contact the site monitor, Thomas Mann, at 021 2637645.
