Directions:
Take State Highway 1 via Wellsford and Te Hana. The turn-off is 2 kilometers north of Te Hana. Follow the signposts for Mangawhai Heads, which is 26 kilometers away. From the Mangawhai Heads car park, the track to the launch site starts from the white concrete tank above the public toilets. The launch site is 160 meters northwards on a rounded crown, 160 feet above the beach.

On the beach. Note that landing on the public area of the beach 300 meters in front of the Surf Lifesaving Club is prohibited when the public is present. The area south of the river mouth, including the dunes, is a protected Bird Sanctuary and is off-limits except during the off-season. Access may be obtained with express permission from the Department of Conservation. Unauthorized vehicles and equipment may be confiscated.

Cautions:
If the wind is off to the south, double-check the direction as it may appear to flow directly up the face but is actually very cross, flowing around the corner of the ridge to the south. Use a wind sock on the beach to confirm.

Flight ceiling is 6,500 feet A.S.L.
Access Conditions:
No access through Bream Tail farm. The farmer is hostile to pilots using his property. Be cautious with flammables; no cigarettes should be taken onto the site due to high fire risk in summer. A large fire in 1982 started in the lower dunes area and swept through the entire area.
