Conditions Optimales
Description
Located 30 km south of Lima, this paragliding site offers a unique flying experience. In winter, the area is lush with pastures, flocks of sheep, and various bird species. In contrast, summer transforms it into a warm, dry desert landscape. The site is known for its thermodynamic conditions and interesting thermal activity on sunny days. However, if a marine breeze enters and the sun is at its zenith, turbulence can occur, so it's best to fly away from the hillside.
Distance flights are limited due to the cloud base usually maxing out at 900 meters, but you can enjoy flights from 10 AM to 5-6 PM. Access to the takeoff area is somewhat remote, but a 4x4 vehicle can get you there. The landing zones are broad but can be a bit turbulent.
Takeoff is from the middle of the mountain 'Punta Blanca.' The spot is small but easy to launch from. In summer, it can be dusty, while winter brings more vegetation, keeping your glider clean.
Landing is straightforward with a large designated area. The field owner is accommodating, but be cautious of another nearby landing spot where the owner is not welcoming to pilots.
To get there, having your own car is essential. While buses and taxis are options, they are not convenient. Local instructors and schools frequent this site, so coordinating with them is advisable.
This site is particularly favorable in winter, with excellent thermal conditions. The mountain, approximately 600 meters high, is climbed halfway for takeoff. The landing area is slightly sloped and thermally active, so caution is needed during landing. This is the closest thermal site to Lima and is often used for local championships. Pilots typically fly in Pachacamac in the morning and move to the coast in Lima in the afternoon when conditions become too strong.
