Description

The Lauchernalp area, situated at an altitude of 3023 meters, is occasionally used for paragliding, with some potential for cross-country flights. It is primarily utilized during the winter season. There are numerous take-off options available, including spots at lower and higher elevations, as well as along the ridge near the mountain station. To reach the launch site, take the gondola from Wiler to Lauchernalp, followed by a chairlift and another gondola to Hockenhorngrat. Note that the area is only accessible during ski operations. The cable car goes up to the 3111-meter-high Hockenhorn ridge, making it an attractive spot for paragliders. The Lauchernalp is also renowned among local freeriders for its long, powdery slopes and stunning high-alpine panorama. The site is optimal for flights in autumn and winter. Popular routes include flying towards the Hollandia Hut near the Lötschenlücke or towards Fiesch. However, be aware that landing in these mountains can result in a long trek to the nearest civilization. The wind conditions in spring and summer can be unpredictable due to cold air dropping from snow-covered or icy surfaces, creating variable wind patterns in the valley. This phenomenon has been detailed by Martin Scheel and is essential reading for those planning to soar in the Valais region. The area has minimal cable interference, though in summer and autumn, unmarked transport cables may be present, which is common in the Alps. Paying close attention to wind conditions is crucial, especially in spring and summer. In autumn and winter, even beginners or pilots with limited cross-country experience can enjoy excellent flights here. For more detailed information, visit [Lauchernalp Paragliding Site](http://fluggebiete.pgcl.ch/category/lauchernalp/). The Sion TMA Sector 3 airspace ranges from 3050 meters AMSL to 3950 meters AMSL. Additionally, within the flight area, there is the LS-D14 Gasterntal danger zone, which involves artillery firing. The lower height is 0 meters, and the upper height is 2200 meters.
