Conditions Optimales
Description
Laubenheim, Germany
This site is frequently used and offers excellent soaring and thermal conditions, making cross-country flights possible. However, it is a sensitive area, so it is crucial to follow the rules and get a proper briefing.
Region: Laubenheim, Germany
Site record: 145.0 km
The terrain is suitable for ONO (east-northeast) winds but lacks a suitable landing spot within glide range. The site is managed by the Pfälzer Gleitschirmclub e.V. and is the most flown site of the club. The dynamic and thermal conditions are very good here. The approval of this site as an official flying area was arduous and costly. Non-compliance with the regulations can lead to the revocation of the permit, so strict adherence to the flight rules is essential. Pay close attention to access and parking regulations; violations will be reported.
Fly only in good conditions with sufficient clearance from the slope. Avoid flying south of the launch site if possible.
Launch Site:
The launch site is a steep grassy slope, bordered by vineyards on the left side. Reverse launching is advantageous. Soaring is straightforward. Landing can be done either at the top—there is a grassy area at the back of the launch site—or, if you can't maintain altitude, on the meadow to the right of the hunting stand below the launch site.
Caution:
You are flying over a vineyard with grapevines everywhere. There is a height restriction with airspace C starting at 1350m MSL. Avoid low flying, and it is prohibited during the breeding season from April 1 to July 31. At the foot of the hill, there is a horse paddock. Fly with a significant distance from the horses. The launch site has been closed before due to disturbances caused to the horses and their owners.
Soaring Conditions:
The ridge is perfectly aligned for east winds.
Access:
Via the A61, exit at Dorsheim. Then through Dorsheim towards Laubenheim (K43). Halfway from Dorsheim, turn left into the vineyard. The route is marked with small signs with a paragliding symbol.
Takeoff:
Easy to moderate. In strong winds, lay out the wing far down.
Landing:
Challenging. The location can be seen in the photo. The landing area is difficult even for experienced pilots due to dynamic and thermal lift, often forcing emergency landings in the plain. The large "horse pasture" cannot be used for emergency landings from April 1 to October 31. Land behind the railway line by the Nahe river. Be cautious of trains! If an emergency landing on the horse pasture is unavoidable, immediately apologize to Mrs. Burg at the riding stable. A donation for the animals might be appropriate. Intentional landings there harm the club's interests, endanger the flying site, and will have consequences. During the rest of the year, emergency landings on the horse pasture are allowed if no horses are present. The top landing area is easy. In strong winds, let yourself be pushed back from the ridge, otherwise approach from the side or behind. Only a weak lee forms.
