Description
Located in the Alpstein region of Switzerland, the Kronberg site offers a paragliding experience with an elevation of 1650 meters. This site is frequently used and is suitable for easy to medium-level pilots. Cross-country flights up to 50 km are possible, with the site record being 38.5 km. For more details, visit [Kronberg](https://www.kronberg.ch).
In the Wasserauen region, also in Switzerland, the site record is 8.4 km. This location is the only launch site in the Alpstein area for south/southwest winds. Pilots should lay out their wings below the drag lift cable. Shortly after takeoff, make a 90-degree right turn to navigate between the trees. If you are not high enough, you can land straight ahead on a small saddle.
The Kronberg cable car operates regularly at :00 and :30. For more information, visit [Kronberg-Seilbahn](http://www.kronberg.ch/).
Launch Site:
- Orientation: South
- Difficulty: Medium
- Elevation: 1640 meters
- Cable Car: Yes
- Coordinates: 9.32863906, 47.29111133
- Walking Time: 2 minutes
When launching, lay out your wing below the drag lift cable. After takeoff, turn 90 degrees right to pass between the trees. If you are not high enough, you can land straight ahead on the small saddle.
For south winds, lay out below the drag lift cable and turn 90 degrees right after takeoff to navigate between the trees. If not high enough, land straight ahead on the small saddle.
The west launch site (W-WNW) slopes gently and is bordered by fir trees on the left. Only experienced pilots should attempt launches towards NW-NE, and only with sufficient wind. The site can accommodate three wings laid out side by side; no additional wings can be laid out behind them. If many pilots are present, prepare your wing behind the launch site, carry it to the launch area, and then spread it out to avoid blocking the site and reducing wait times for others. The launch area is limited, and once the lines are tensioned, you are almost at the steep slope. Although not a vertical cliff, caution is advised. When inflating the wing, note that it lies in the lee and should be pulled up briskly.
For a simple glide without significant altitude reserves, fly towards the landing site at the Jakobsbad valley station. Cross the cable car either in the middle section (where the cable sags) or fly lower, hoping to have enough altitude to turn right towards the landing site at the valley station.
Thermal updrafts can be expected in the lower part to the left of the cable car or on the alp to the right of the cable car, roughly in the middle, but they can be weak and unreliable.
Kronberg is known as an evening site, so it is generally not worth arriving too early. However, thermal flights can occasionally be possible in the morning.
Difficulty:
Do not lose unnecessary altitude before the launch site, as the landing site is still far away.
Cable Car Cables:
They generally do not pose a problem; however, they cross the valley and must be considered in flight planning when launching from the south or west to avoid walking the last third. Flying under the cables is prohibited.
Drag Lifts:
In normal flight operations, which mainly occur on the north and southwest flanks of Kronberg, there is no conflict with the ski lift cables. Only when launching south or returning from an overflight over the ridge from north to south must you consider them.
At the valley station, there is a small snack bar and benches where you can relax. On Kronberg, you can enjoy a cup of coffee at the guesthouse if it is open.
