Description
The Kreuzeck launch site, situated at an altitude of 1560-1623 meters with a height difference of 880 meters, is regularly used for leisure flights, with some potential for cross-country flying. The launch area is located below the Kreuzeckbahn between the mountain rescue hut and the Hexenkessel ski lift. This site is only accessible during the summer months as it is used for skiing in winter.
The Kreuzeck offers a northeast-facing, relatively flat launch site that also serves as a training ground. Pilots set up near or above the mountain rescue hut and initially fly parallel to the ski lift. Before reaching the lift's valley station, pilots must turn left to fly over the trees.
Thermal entry is challenging due to the north-facing terrain, but with the help of the valley wind, longer flights can be achieved from Kreuzeck. Note that the valley wind can become quite strong from midday onwards. Therefore, for extended valley wind flights, it is advisable to launch again in the evening.
Landing is done at the same spot as from the Osterfelder launch site, at the landing area near the road to the Alpspitzbahn parking lot. A large windsock on a hay barn marks this landing zone.
Safety Warnings:
From midday onwards, the landing area typically experiences strong valley winds from the north. Do not approach the landing area behind the earth wall (stream) with a paraglider, as there are strong turbulences. During east wind conditions, expect very strong valley winds until late afternoon.
