Description

The Kreuzberg in Bischofsheim, Germany, is a popular paragliding site known for its excellent soaring conditions and potential for cross-country (XC) flights. The site features a height difference of 725-812 meters and a horizontal distance of 180-300 meters, making it a medium-difficult location. The site is particularly favored for its good XC possibilities and is frequently used by paragliders. The take-off area is located at the upper end of a ski slope, known as the "Skischneise." This area is ideal for launching when the wind is coming from the north to northeast (0° - 45°). However, side winds from eastern directions can cause turbulence, so it's crucial to ensure the wind is well-aligned before starting. The wind sock at the landing site can help gauge the regional wind direction. The Kreuzberg is renowned not only for its monastery brewery but also as one of the best flying mountains in the Rhön region. The elevation difference of up to 550 meters and a record flight distance of 254.6 km from Kreuzberg to Aalen highlight its appeal. For access, pilots should park their cars at the Drei-Tannen-Lift parking lot. Parking is not allowed above the lot or on the field paths, which must remain clear for agricultural vehicles. The start area is reached by a 20-minute walk along the ski slope path. Flying is permitted only with wind directions from N (360°) to ONO (70°) and wind speeds below 25 km/h. Be cautious of the jet effect in the forest clearing, and avoid flying in strong northwest or east winds due to dangerous turbulence. The site is also used by model aircraft pilots, who start below the forest clearing, so mixed flight operations require extra attention. Landings should only be conducted at the designated landing site. Avoid flying over grazing cows and dismantle your gear at the edge of the landing area or near the wind sock. If the grass is high, move to the parking lot to pack up. For more information, visit [Kreuzbergflieger](http://www.kreuzbergflieger.de/) or [RDG e.V.](https://rdg-ev.de/kreuzberg-n-no). The Kreuzberg is a prime starting point for many cross-country flights into the Bavarian Rhön. After take-off, pilots usually catch the ridge lift to the right in front of the beech forest, which is excellent for soaring and offers good thermals. The thermals typically form in front of the forest clearing at the start. For après-fly activities, the Luisenhof in Haselbach is a popular meeting spot, with the possibility of landing right in front of the terrace. Note: There is no longer a need to register at the gas station before flying, as previously mentioned on paragliding365. Additionally, the area is heavily monitored with speed cameras, so drivers should be cautious. For more details, visit [RDG e.V.](https://rdg-ev.de/kreuzberg-n-no).
