Conditions Optimales
Description
Located in Queensland, Australia, Killarney offers excellent cross-country (XC) paragliding opportunities. The site features multiple launches, including the Southeastern launch at an altitude of 1023 meters. Both Eagle's launches provide stunning views of the Great Condamine Gorge, with the Condamine River flowing through it. The bombout zone is situated in the valley in front of the launch, with Killarney town visible to the right at the mouth of the valley.
Brosnan's Knoll, located to the right of the launch, serves as a reliable thermal trigger and offers an easy route towards Killarney. The spurs behind the launch are also effective for catching thermals. Beyond 10 kilometers over the back, you'll encounter open plains stretching as far as the eye can see.
To reach Killarney and its launches from the Gold Coast, head to Canungra, then Beaudesert, and continue to Boonah. After Boonah, turn left towards Maroon Dam/Rathdowney and follow the road until you reach Carney's Creek Road. Alternatively, you can take a slightly slower route via Beaudesert, Rathdowney, and Carney's Creek Road.
From Brisbane, you have two options:
Option A: Through Cunningham's Gap
Head southwest towards Ipswich, take the Warwick turn-off before Ipswich, and continue on the Cunningham Highway over Cunningham's Gap. After passing a Driver Reviver stop, take a left towards Queen Mary Falls and Cedar Route 14. Follow the signs through Freestone, Yangan Town, and Emuvale, then decide whether to head straight to Killarney for amenities or access the launches from Tannymorel.
Option B: Via The Head/Teviot Gap
From Ipswich, take the Boonah turn-off and continue through Boonah. Head towards Rathdowney/Maroon Dam, then turn right onto Carney's Creek Road. Follow the signs to The Head Road/Killarney, passing Teviot Falls and Carr's Lookout. Continue down the road to Killarney and take the right turn towards Tannymorel for access to the launches.
For Western/Fillon's Launch and Eastern/Eagle's Launch, from Warwick, take a left at Tannymorel and another left past the war memorial. From Killarney, take two right turns at the school/church and the war memorial. Continue through Mt. Colliery, cross two cattle grids, and turn right onto Sunday Plains Road just before the third grid.
The site features three launches facing South-East, South, and West, with a launch altitude of 1023 meters. A windsock is available, and pilots are allowed to camp at the launch.
