Conditions Optimales
Description
Located in Bach im Lechtal, Austria, this paragliding site offers a beautiful and relatively straightforward flying area, ideal for advanced pilots. While training does occur here, the complex wind systems, including the Bavarian and valley winds, as well as the thermals, make it challenging for beginners, who have only a short window for flying.
The site is frequently used but not overcrowded, making it a great spot for cross-country flights. The launch area is accessible via a 15-20 minute walk from the cable car, with an option to hike further up for better conditions in southwest winds.
The terrain is thermally interesting, with local flight school Airsport located directly at Landing Zone 2. Note that the landing zone is over 2 km uphill from the cable car station, so organizing a shuttle service or checking with the flight school is advisable. There is a year-round bus service available (see [ÖBB Postbus Timetable](http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/dn?L=vs_postbus)), and the flight school also offers a shuttle service.
The Jöchelspitze, situated on the north side of the Lechtal (south-facing slope), provides a thermally active environment almost year-round, with high cloud bases often exceeding 3000 meters. The site is particularly excellent in late winter (February, March), with good days allowing flights up to 3000 meters.
There are no start or landing fees, and no toll fees for access. The cable car provides a comfortable ascent.
The site features large, safe landing meadows and allows flying in various wind conditions, with potential for high altitudes (cloud base over 4000 MSL). The main wind directions are from west to east.
The launch areas include three main spots: a dragon ramp facing west near the mountain restaurant, and three meadows at different heights for southern directions, all considered easy. The landing zone is a large meadow at the western end of Bach, near the football field, but be cautious of strong and gusty valley winds.
Bach is a hotspot for cross-country flights due to its inner alpine location and proximity to the Inntal, offering extensive kilometer potential. However, strong thermals, complex wind systems, and the intense valley wind require careful consideration.

For accommodation and dining, Egon’s place near the mountain station offers good food and pre-landing beer, with nice rooms at reasonable prices. In winter, staying overnight at Egon’s allows for an early morning ski descent in fresh snow.
