Conditions Optimales
Description
Hondón de las Nieves, Spain
Takeoff: The takeoff area is located in a venturi, which means the wind accelerates significantly. The takeoff has a slight incline, so be cautious when lifting the wing in strong winds as it may pull you off the ground. During hot weather, strong thermals can detach from the takeoff area, causing sudden wind acceleration. If the wind sock is slightly crossed from the east, turn left towards the eastern slope, being mindful of a nearby small power line that can be easily cleared under these conditions.
Top Landing: Top landing is quite challenging due to the small size of the takeoff area. However, since you will have hiked up, it might not be a major concern.
Flight: This is primarily an afternoon flight site, as the wind stabilizes later in the day. The best wind direction for flying is from the south, ensuring a good flight. Due to wind confluences entering the valley, you can sometimes fly on slopes facing south, southeast, and east simultaneously. When heading to the southern slope, be cautious of high-voltage power lines passing through a significant venturi and the lee side of a small hill about 300 meters past the venturi. Open up towards the valley to avoid the lee side. If you manage to turn, you'll find a great slope to fly on. Avoid the southern slope if it is no longer sunlit, as you are likely to sink.
Do not climb more than 300 meters above the terrain, as airplanes fly very low in this area.
Landing: The designated landing area is Hondón.
How to Get There: Coordinates: 38.33028, -0.88539. From Hondón de las Nieves towards Hondón de los Frailes, take a small road to the right about 300 meters out. Continue straight until you reach some houses, where you will make a right and then a left 90-degree turn. Follow the road, which turns into a path ending near some pine trees. Park your car here and prepare to hike up to the takeoff. The takeoff is to the right of where you are, about 80 meters from a small power line to the left of it, just in front of a pine tree. A small path ascends diagonally from the wide path.
Additional Information: A local pilot maintains this takeoff and flies at least four days a week. Respect the takeoff area and use it only for launching, not for practicing with the wing.
