Description
The grassy cone of Hohe Salve offers excellent flying conditions. Early in the year, you can already find thermal updrafts here. You can reach Hohe Salve via the cable car from Söll or Hopfgarten. All take-off points are located near the summit. Please use only the new, official landing site! It is about 500m from the Söll valley station, approximately 80m west of the lowest parking lot, and marked by a clearly visible windsock. When landing, be mindful of the nearby power line (especially in strong valley winds) and potential tractor traffic.
This site is frequently used and offers good cross-country flying opportunities. There are many launch options in the vicinity.
Region: Hopfgarten/Söll - Austria
Site record: 173.2 km
The landing zone in Söll is located on the access road to the cable car. The landing zone in Hopfgarten is on a meadow below the main road.
The Hohe Salve is ideal for both winter and spring flying due to the early presence of updrafts. However, it can get crowded. Launching is possible in almost all directions, but hang gliders should note that the north launch is relatively flat. The area is not particularly susceptible to Föhn or north winds.
