Description
At an altitude of 2300 meters with a height difference of 1625 meters, this paragliding site is occasionally used, but not in winter. It offers beautiful soaring conditions and the possibility for cross-country flights. The mid-level launch site is just as good and closer to the lifts. Note that there is a wildlife protection area south of Wormser Hütte.
The launch area is a steep meadow directly in front of Wormser Hütte, below the path. One advantage of this launch site is that you can grab a snack before taking off.
At Hochjoch, flying is possible all year round. Usable thermals often appear early in the spring, and from May to July, long-distance flights are common. In summer, the often strong valley wind must be taken into account. Hochjoch offers everything from calm morning flights to strong thermals for cross-country flights. Launches can be made from Kapell or Sennigrat. The landing site near the valley station is acceptable but is in the lee of the houses.
This flying area is clearly demanding. It is crucial to study the weather situation as part of your usual flight preparation. Approaching fronts and thunderstorms can quickly make conditions challenging. This is a typical Föhn area!
The flying area is known for strong valley winds in midsummer and significant turbulence near the ground.
