Paragliding Hill 60

Hill 60 is a popular flying site when the summer north-easterly winds are blowing. Located just 25 minutes south of Stanwell Park, Hill 60 offers stunning views of swimming beaches, the five islands of Wollongong, and Big Island, a bird sanctuary just offshore. You'll often share the air with various sea birds, and the north-easterly winds provide warm, sunny weather. This site is primarily used for hang gliding due to the strong NE sea breezes, which can reach up to 25 knots in the early afternoon. Local knowledge is essential, so it's recommended to contact local pilots before flying. For landings, novices are advised to land on the beach below the takeoff point. There is also a landing area in the park, but be cautious of rotor effects from the headland. To get to Hill 60 from Sydney, take the Southern Freeway (F6) past Waterfall and continue south towards Wollongong. At the bottom of the descent (Mount Ousley), continue past the Wollongong exit on your left and stay on the highway as it bears to the right. Do not take the Wollongong exit. Continue on the freeway until you reach the Five Islands Road Exit on your left (Exit No.155) for Port Kembla. At the traffic lights, turn left onto Five Islands Road and continue until you pass the steelworks. After passing the Blue Scope Steel signage on your left, take the immediate exit to your left (Exit 155). Five Islands Road then becomes Military Road. Stay on Military Road until you start ascending towards Hill 60. At the end of the ascent, turn left to reach Hill 60.
