Description
This paragliding site in Wehr, Germany, offers an exhilarating experience with a takeoff height of 850 meters and a height difference of 450 meters. It is highly popular and frequently used, providing excellent opportunities for cross-country flights. Top landing is common here.
The site offers stunning views of the Rhine, Black Forest, Vosges, and, on clear days, the Swiss Alps. The launch is a forest clearing with a power line to the right of the takeoff direction. Special regulations apply due to the nearby Hütten glider airfield, which must not be disturbed. Paragliding and hang gliding are prohibited during the airfield's takeoff and landing operations unless cleared via radio communication. More information about operations with gliders can be found on the information board and through the local club. Guests are welcome to fly after an initial briefing by the club.
The landing area slopes gently and is located next to the access road, with fruit trees in the lower section. Access to the launch site is via the Bergalingen sports field. Park your car there and walk to the launch site, following the high-voltage line for about 3 minutes.
The launch area is a 30-meter-wide forest clearing bordered by 25-meter-high trees. A high-voltage power line runs parallel to the right of the clearing. The top landing area is a large meadow with a windsock about 100 meters southeast of the launch site. Be cautious of strong turbulence and rotors at this top landing area during strong west winds. The valley landing area is a large meadow with a windsock at the foot of the mountain slope near Wehr.
Cars must be parked at the sports field parking lot.
Caution is advised at the launch site during northwesterly winds due to potential crosswinds or downdrafts caused by the trees on the right side, which have led to tree landings in the past.
Guest pilots are warmly welcomed after a site briefing. The annual Heue-Cup, held on a summer weekend, is a notable event where paragliders demonstrate their skills in timed flights and target landings.
