Description
Located in Italy, this paragliding site offers an elevation of 2191 meters with a height difference of 870 meters. It is frequently used and provides many takeoff options, making it a good choice for cross-country (XC) flights. The site record is 83.2 km.
To reach the takeoff point, you can take the Helmbahn cable car from Sexten. After a 15-20 minute hike, you'll arrive at spacious launch areas that accommodate various wind directions. This region is a cross-country flying haven, with thermal conditions allowing for flights up to 5000 meters, especially in April and May. You can fly along the Dolomites and the Pustertal valley, with routes extending as far as Lienz.
The Sextner Dolomites in northeastern South Tyrol provide a stunning backdrop for your flights. The unique mountain sundial, consisting of peaks like Neuner, Zehner, Elfer, Zwölfer, and Einser, along with the towering Dreischusterspitze, enhances the scenic beauty.
Springtime can bring strong thermals, so it's advisable to coordinate your launch time with local pilots. The large landing area is conveniently located just 5 minutes from the cable car station. However, be mindful of the busy road traffic in Sexten. From above, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the Sextner Dolomites, which are also great for hiking.
