Description
Haldi, located in the Uri region of Switzerland, is a well-known paragliding site, especially popular during the autumn months. The launch site is situated at an altitude of 1080 meters and is accessible via a cable car from Schattdorf. The take-off area is a flat meadow near a farmhouse, making it relatively easy for pilots to prepare and launch.
This site is particularly favored for its excellent soaring conditions, especially in the Bise wind. Pilots can enjoy long and beautiful flights, with the possibility of some cross-country flying. Top landing is also possible here. An alternative, slightly higher launch area exists, but the main launch site is the most commonly used.
The proximity of the launch and landing sites makes Haldi an attractive location for paragliding schools. However, pilots should be cautious of strong valley winds in the summer and spring, as the landing area can become challenging due to rotor effects from rows of trees and houses.
Important notes:
- Do not leave any trash behind.
- Avoid launching in downdrafts.
- Be aware of transport cables (check the obstacle map).
- Launching is not recommended in Föhn conditions with wind speeds greater than 2 HPa and strong southwesterly winds.
The launch window is oriented southwest and is of medium difficulty. The coordinates for the launch site are 8.67275983, 46.86256908, and it is just a 5-minute walk from the cable car station.
