Description
The Hainberg is a natural launch site near an ancient Germanic sacrificial site, located east of Stadtsteinach, Germany. This site is approved for both paragliders and hang gliders. Launching is possible with wind directions from WSW to NW. The slope is well-ventilated with a west wind (270°, line from the church to the launch site).
In 2017, several trees were felled, but it remains crucial to execute flawless launches as you must clear a closed row of trees.
Important Note for Hainberg:
Since 2017, there is a horse paddock/stable between the southern tip of the campsite and Badstrasse Stadtsteinach. Occasionally, paragliders land on one of the adjacent meadows. The owner has indicated that the horses may panic if flown over. Therefore, it is advised to avoid flying over this area and to land on the official landing field.
Please respect this for a friendly and peaceful coexistence under the motto "Live and let live."
Site Manager: Nordbayerische Drachenflieger e.V.
Site Warden: Johann Rottmann
Guest Pilots: Non-members need to obtain a day membership in advance, which costs 5 Euros. Requirements include approved equipment, liability insurance, and a valid flight license (which will be checked).
Remarks: Access to the launch site by car is possible.
The landing field (at the campsite) is directly below the launch site. Unfortunately, it is relatively small and slopes slightly to the SW. Hang gliders have difficulty landing here due to ground effect. There is a separate landing area for hang gliders (marked by a windsock and a single apple tree). The Nordbayerische Drachenflieger work with local tourism officials. For the town and especially the campsite, paragliders are a welcome attraction.
A notable feature is the swimming pool next to the landing field, which is particularly enjoyable in the summer.
