Conditions Optimales
Description
Krestova is a paragliding and hang gliding site located 16 km west of Crescent Valley, southwest of Nelson. The launch elevation is 4,400 feet above sea level, with a landing zone at 2,000 feet. The site is suitable for both hang gliders and paragliders, offering ridge and thermal flying conditions.
The launch area is an old logging slash on a knoll, not visible from the road, so it's best to go up with a local pilot. The landing zone is the Krestova recreational games fields, which has plenty of space unless in use. The launch road is off the road to the Provincial park, and there is a steep grassy slope for paragliders just past the hang glider launch.
This site is particularly good for morning flights, with excellent air conditions at dawn during the summer. The flying season typically runs from June to November due to snow, although the road is occasionally plowed in late spring.
Class 'E' airspace is above 700 feet AGL following the land contour. For advanced weather briefing and HAGAR notification, contact FIC at 1-866-WXBRIEF (1-866-992-7433) or 1-866-GOMETEO (1-866-466-3836) for French service. The radio frequencies are 123.4 MHz for aircraft and 173.640 MHz.
Intermediate skill level is recommended for this site. The XC potential is good, with flights over 50 km possible. The site is regulated informally, and local pilots can be contacted for more information.
