Description
Elevation: 2069 meters, Height Difference: approximately 1000 meters
This site is frequently used and offers excellent cross-country (XC) opportunities, including good FAI triangles. The best time to fly here is from June to August. However, be aware that the terrain is very sensitive.
To ensure the continued availability of the Golm / Tschagguns / Vorarlberg launch site in Austria for cross-country flights, the following rules must be observed:
- No launch site is available at Golm during winter.
- Only pilots with a cross-country license are allowed.
- Each pilot must register once per season via email, providing their name, glider type, and glider color.
- Each pilot is required to upload their flight as an IGC file on the internet.
Region: Montafon, Austria. The site record is 172.3 km.
Pilots have reported flights reaching altitudes of up to 3500 meters, with routes extending to Drusenfluh and the Swiss Gate. From the top station of the Golm cable car, a short hike leads to a launch site that is particularly suitable for east wind conditions.
Preferred wind directions are east, northeast, and southeast. The launch site is a meadow that is not very steep, making it suitable only for paragliders. It is an excellent morning launch site but becomes unsuitable by midday.
Access is on foot from the cable car station via a gravel path, taking about 30 minutes. To safely reach the landing zone, pilots should fly towards Schruns from the Golm cable car top station, being cautious of the high-voltage power lines that need to be overflown.
This flying area is a good starting point for XC flights over the Rätikon range (Switzerland).
