Description
Hinterwalderhof, located at an altitude of 1559 meters with a height difference of 130-180 meters, is a rarely used paragliding site with no recorded flight logs. It is suitable for evening soaring when the cable car is not operational.
To reach Hinterwalderhof, head past the tennis hall towards Altfaßtal until you arrive at Walder Hof. Before ascending the meadows, make sure to ask for permission. The Hinterlechner family offers holiday apartments at http://www.walderhof.it, with a launch site directly behind the house. While you enjoy a relaxed evening flight, children can play nearby. The launch direction is west, with an immediate left turn towards Mühlbach. Under favorable conditions, you can gain altitude at the corner to Pustertal and land back in Meransen. Otherwise, fly over Mühlbach to the landing site at Graahof.
For transportation, Taxi Fischnaller (0472-520114) can take you from the Meransen cable car station to Walderhof or Pichlerhof. In Meransen, always land on mowed meadows.
Gitschberg offers multiple launch options and is an excellent starting point for cross-country flights along Pustertal. The summit provides a stunning view of the Dolomites and is ideal for combining skiing and flying. In winter, the summit launch site is accessible via the cable car and chairlift. During summer and post-ski season, you typically need to hike from the mid-station and launch from the ski slope. If the cable car is not running, you can hike up from Kieneralm (road between Meransen and Weitental). Reaching the landing site in Meransen from mid-altitude requires updrafts. Always land on mowed meadows in Meransen.
Pilots from the Batflyers Weitental club and the Flyart flight school launch from the east side of the mountain at 'Oberhof' (ask for launch permission at Oberhof) and use the thermals to gain altitude. The landing site at Lanerhof in Weitental is approached from the southeast launch site.
