Paragliding Ginestre Sestri Levante

The paragliding site near Sestri Levante offers a unique flying experience with an elevation of 221 meters. This spot is known for its soaring conditions, although flights are not frequently logged. To reach the site, take the A-10 highway from Genoa to Ventimiglia and exit at Sestri Levante. Head towards Riva Trigoso and continue to the western end of the beach until you reach the Bunker Bar, managed by Angelo, a skilled local pilot. The beach serves as the landing zone. For takeoff, return towards the highway and after about 500 meters from the beach, take a left turn towards Ginestre. Drive to the top of the paved road, park your car carefully, and take the stairs uphill. Follow the concrete road to the top, then turn right towards the Punta Manara trail. After a short climb, you will find a small clearing for takeoff, marked by a carpet to keep your wing clean. The takeoff is technical, accommodating one wing at a time, and is quite steep but short. Launch confidently; with a front breeze, only a couple of steps are needed. In calm conditions, the lift-off is at the edge, so be cautious and decisive. Landing is easy on the beach but prohibited during the summer months. In-flight, you can enjoy dynamic or thermodynamic soaring on sunny days. Punta Manara often provides a thermal that can lift you 300-400 meters above the takeoff point. Previously, pilots would land downwind at Sestri Levante, but this practice has been abandoned due to difficulty in returning. Currently, pilots aim to cross towards Renà, the ridges to the east. With a slight south wind, you can catch the ridge lift and, in some cases, even reach Moneglia. However, ensure you have sufficient altitude as there are no intermediate landing spots.
