Description
Located in the Schönau region of Germany, this paragliding site offers a takeoff height of 983 meters and a height difference of 465 meters. It is a popular spot for soaring and offers some opportunities for cross-country (XC) flying, with good XC potential.

Transport to the takeoff point is available via a shuttle bus that takes you up to 500 meters before the start. For private transport, drive from the landing site in Katstel, turn left onto the B317, and after 700 meters, turn right over Künaberg and Stutz until you reach the Gasthaus "Holzer Kreuz." From there, it's a 200-meter walk to the parking area, followed by a 30-minute hike to the takeoff point. Follow the sand path past the large wooden shed, turn left, pass the water reservoir, and continue up the steep grassy path to the "Dornwaasen" saddle. Do not go off-trail or climb over fences.
Special considerations include avoiding disturbing livestock at the takeoff site and being cautious of root stocks at the northwest start. Emergency landings can be made at the parking area if necessary. Be aware of numerous power lines, especially near Künaberg and Schönau, where a large overhead power line must be overflown with sufficient altitude.
The best times for flying are early afternoon for south starts and after 6:00 PM in midsummer for northwest starts.
Guest pilots are welcome, and annual passes can be purchased at the shuttle bus for €10 per year (as of 2015). These passes should be visibly carried and shown upon request. The club-operated shuttle bus runs on weekends from early April to late October, with the first trip starting at 10:30 AM from Rathaus Fröhnd-Kastel.
