Description

Eumeralla (Red Rocks) in Anglesea, Australia is a coastal soaring site with a height of 73 meters and a length of 3,800 meters. It is rarely used but offers good coastal soaring opportunities. Top landing is possible. The site features coastal cliffs with an elevation of 300 feet (90 meters) above sea level. The launch area is a sharp cliff edge caused by landslip, making it tricky for hang gliders but suitable for paragliders. Historically, hang gliders frequented this site, but now Bell's is a more popular option, and Eumeralla is mostly overflown on the way down the coast. Paragliders still fly from here regularly. Takeoff is from a grassy cliff top, which is suitable for paragliders but very tricky for hang gliders. Landing can be done on the grassy top through turbulence caused by the cliff edge or alternatively on the beach if the tide is out. The flight offers consistent lift, especially on summer days, with height gains up to 1200 feet (400 meters) possible. However, there is no beach at high tide, which can be a hazard. The location is on the Great Ocean Road, about 1 km past the Pt Addis access road. Turn left into Hurst Road and follow the track to the cliff top. Refer to Melways Map 93 E8 for detailed directions.
