Description
This paragliding site in Italy is challenging and rarely used. It is suitable for hike & fly and thermal soaring flights. The best season to fly here is from February to June and also in October, especially when the northwest wind (Maestrale) prevails, which can make some cross-country flights possible.
Caution is advised as this site should only be flown with no wind or a light northeast wind. There are no emergency landing options and the standard landings are not very good.
To reach the site, travel to Piombino Marittima and take a ferry to Portoferraio. The ferry ride takes about an hour, with services provided by Toremar (www.toremar.it) and Moby Lines (www.mobylines.it). From Portoferraio, drive through Procchio and Marciana Marina to reach Marciana. If you don't have a car, you can rent one.
