Description
Ed Levin County Park in Milpitas, California, offers a variety of paragliding opportunities suitable for pilots of all levels, from beginners to advanced. The site features multiple launch points, including the 300', 600', and 1750' launches, each with specific rating and experience requirements.
Thermalling and cross-country (XC) flights are possible here, with the site record reaching up to 53.9 km. The park provides two main takeoff options: West and South. Top landing is also possible, making it a versatile site for different flying styles.
To fly at Ed Levin, you must be a member of the USHPA and the Wings of Rogallo Northern California Hang Gliding Association Inc. Additionally, you need to sign the WOR Ed Levin Waiver and the SCCPD Ed Levin Waiver. The latter must be mailed to the Santa Clara County Parks Department, and you will receive a sticker to display on your helmet as proof.
The park's launches are grassy slopes with excellent angles for takeoff, free from trees or significant upwind obstacles. However, caution is advised when launching from the 1750' Back Side launch due to potential rotor conditions. It's also important to be wary of any east wind components, as these can create challenging conditions.
