Description
Duder's Peninsula (Duder's Regional Park, Whakakaiwhara) is located adjacent to Umupuia Beach, between Maraetai and Clevedon, 4.4 kilometers south of Maraetai. This site offers coastal soaring with opportunities for top landing or beach landing, depending on the tide.
For paragliding, the northern site is suitable with a north wind, while the southeastern site requires a southeast wind. The take-off height at the southeastern site is 180 feet above sea level, near the top dressing fertilizer bins. The best top landing is also in this area, so park your vehicle as close as practical to the bins.
When landing, be cautious of trenches across the paddock on the southeastern side. Beach landing under the northern site is not possible between half and full tide, and similarly, bottom landing under the southeastern site is minimal during these times.
The site is within controlled airspace (CTA/C) with a flight ceiling of 1,500 feet. The southeastern site is also within low flying area L261, so be aware of other aircraft below ridge height and close to the hill.
Access to the park requires permission from the Auckland Council Regional Park. Contact Paul the ranger at 021 676 300 or the site monitor, John Burton, at 09 528 3362 for the gate combination and to confirm vehicle access. Only the minimum number of vehicles should be taken into the park, and they should be parked before the trig point due to road subsidence.

Please respect the airspace regulations and the park's access conditions to ensure the continued privilege of flying at this site.
