Description
This paragliding site is located near a cable car in Switzerland. It is rarely used but offers multiple take-off spots. In summer, you might experience some soaring, while in winter, it’s more likely to be a glide down.
The take-off point is situated at an elevation of 2020 meters with a height difference of 640 meters. The take-off direction is southwest, and the difficulty level is medium. The coordinates are 9.77209653, 46.62178509. From Bergün, take the chairlift to Darlux. The take-off area is a moderately steep meadow, and it takes about 5 minutes to walk there.
Bergün is a picturesque mountain village characterized by Engadine architecture, located at the foot of the Albula Pass at 1376 meters above sea level. The region offers stunning views and is surrounded by notable landmarks:
- East: Albula Pass towards Engadin - St. Moritz
- South: Ela Mountains towards Julier Pass - Savognin
- West: Valley opening towards Alvaneu, Lenzerheide, Chur, and Arosa
- North: Kesch area towards Davos - Klosters, connected to Engadin
The area is an excellent flying site, especially in winter when you can take the lift up to Alp Darlux. The prepared take-off area allows for easy setup and launch. Even novice pilots should find it easy to gain altitude. Crossing the valley is manageable with modern gliders.
The flight starts from Alp Darlux on a prepared take-off area with a wind indicator (ribbon) facing roughly southwest. If the wind is not favorable, wait briefly for the next thermal bubble. You will fly along the slope towards Bergün and should gain significant altitude under normal conditions. Landing is near the valley station of the lift.
Soaring is possible to the right of the take-off area (towards Bergün) and even on the opposite side of the valley (north) where thermals can be found even in winter.
