Description
Eagle Rock, located on Crawford Mountain, offers a unique paragliding experience with two launch sites: one facing northwest and the other southeast. The southeast launch, facing 160 degrees, is more frequently used than the northwest takeoff. The elevation at the launch site is 2227 feet, with a height difference of 255 meters.
Access to the launch site is possible by driving up, but it is best to do so with other pilots. Please park in designated parking areas or in the woods and avoid parking directly on the launch site.
This site is occasionally used for thermalling and cross-country (XC) flights. The site record stands at 60.4 km.
Before flying, it is mandatory to contact the local club, Skywackers, for permission and additional information: [Skywackers Contact](http://skywackers.org/index.php?page=er).
Rules for flying at Eagle Rock:
- You must be a current USHGA member.
- Pilots must have a current H-3/P-3 or higher USHGA rating. H-2/P-2 pilots may fly under supervision.
- Helmets are required.
- Always clear traffic and yell "CLEAR" before taking off.
- No motorized flights from the launch site.
- Dogs must be on a leash at the launch site and landing field.
- Post a message with the total number of flights from the mountain that day.
- Uphill traffic has the right-of-way on the mountain road.
Be aware that the landing zone below the launch is small and requires precise landing skills. There are power lines in several fields used for landing. Follow the ridge rules, clear your launches and turns, and move your glider out of the field after landing.
Miscellaneous:
- Use a radio on the official frequency 151.625 MHz for safety.
- Carry a cell phone for emergencies.
- Park only in designated areas and do not block access to the tower.
- No overnight camping without prior permission from landowners.
- In case of emergency, call 911.
Rules of the Ridge:
- Always clear your turns and avoid pinning other pilots against the ridge.
- Pass on the right in ridge soaring conditions.
- The first pilot in a thermal sets the turning direction.
- The lower pilot has the right of way.
- Maintain a counter-clockwise rotation when ridge soaring.
