Cimetta, located in the Locarno region of Switzerland, offers an exceptional paragliding experience with an altitude range of 1570-1630 meters. This site is highly popular and well-utilized, making it a must-visit for paragliding enthusiasts. The area is known for its excellent cross-country flying potential, including FAI triangles. There are various natural take-off options, with the most commonly used one situated below the restaurant.
The official take-off point is 100 meters downhill from the chairlift's arrival station, marked by a windsock and a display case with landing information. During winter, the take-off area is groomed and fenced to prevent interference from skiers. The wind typically comes from the south, making take-offs straightforward and ideal for flight schools. The only obstacles are the chairlift cable on the left and a small hut on the right, both at a safe distance.
Cimetta offers stunning views of the lake and is suitable for flight schools, beginners, and pilots aiming for distance flights. In the summer evenings, you can enjoy beautiful soaring flights above Brè, Rochini, or Centovalli.
The take-off site is a large, flat meadow located below the mountain station. In the afternoon, it's advisable to orient yourself towards the Maggia Valley and avoid flying too far towards Locarno due to potentially strong valley winds that could make reaching the landing site difficult. Always be mindful of the TMA Locarno airspace, which is often inactive but should be checked with locals.
