Description
Altitude ranges from 2780 to 2863 meters with a height difference of 925 meters. This site is occasionally used for thermal soaring and some cross-country (XC) flights. It offers walk-and-fly options with many trails available and has road access.
Located in Utah, USA, this is the highest of the three paved launch sites in the state. It features a good west-facing mountain launch. However, flying in the mornings is not recommended due to the easterly flow that occurs. The launch site is near Cedar Breaks National Monument, where landing is prohibited, but flying over it is allowed if you are doing XC.
This mountain drive-up launch is accessible almost year-round and provides a great 2200-3000 ft sledder in light winds. It can also serve as an excellent starting point for a long day of XC flying. Launching is best in WNW-NW winds; anything outside of that can make for a challenging flight. To launch from the top, you can hike up via a trail.
Avoid flying in a south wind. The primary landing zone (LZ) is a field at the base of the mountain, which is an easy glide on most days. There is an alternative LZ near the houses at the base of the mountain, but only land here if you are confident in your skills.
