The region of Castala has a site record of 33.2 km. The take-off point, situated at an altitude of 2000 meters, provides stunning views of the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.
This site is suitable for both paragliding and hang gliding. The landing area is conveniently located behind a small wooded area that features a restaurant, barbecue spots, and rest areas.
To reach Castala, take the Motril - Almeria highway and exit at Berja. Drive towards Berja and pass through the town of Castala. A good road leads to the landing area, and a well-maintained gravel path takes you up to the take-off point.
Historically, the area was used for copper mining, and large, deep holes (ranging from 100 to 300 meters) are still present. These holes are not fenced off, so it is crucial to supervise children at the take-off area and be mindful of your surroundings. Additionally, be aware of mountain goats and sheep, and adhere to all nature conservation regulations.
