Paragliding Carpinaccio Raticosa

Located in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, this paragliding site is popular among pilots from Tuscany and Bologna. The takeoff point is at an altitude of 935 meters with a south-southwest exposure. The landing area is approximately 80 meters lower, making it a relatively easy flight. The site is situated at Passo della Raticosa on the provincial road 65 between Florence and Bologna. It is particularly suitable for beginners due to its dynamic flight conditions and wide takeoff area. The landing zone is positioned just below the takeoff, making it convenient for pilots. The flight path follows a ridge of about 200 meters, utilizing the day's thermodynamic conditions. It is recommended to fly here year-round, except during the hottest hours of spring and summer when turbulence can be quite strong. Evening restitution flights are highly recommended for a smoother experience. To reach the site, drive to Passo della Raticosa and head towards the village of Pietramala on the Tuscan side. Follow the signs to 'Lago Rosa,' turn left, and continue for about 2 km to the hamlet of Poggio Tignoso. After passing the hamlet by about 200 meters, you will see Monte Carpinaccio on your left. Park your car and walk approximately 20 minutes to the takeoff point. The takeoff area is a large grassy field, allowing for easy launches and top landings. The landing area, although slightly sloped in some parts, poses minimal challenges. However, be cautious of strong winds and avoid flying during peak thermal activity in the warmer months.
