Description
Carì is a popular paragliding site located in the alpine region of Switzerland. It offers excellent cross-country flying opportunities, especially during February and March. The site is situated next to the chairlift station, which operates during the winter season.
The launch sites in Carì are varied:
1. **Launch 1**: Located on the right side of the second chairlift at 2290 meters. This launch is small and rocky.
2. **Launch 2**: A winter launch in front of the ski lift arrival, accessible by a 25-minute walk.
3. **Launch 3**: A summer launch at 2047 meters, reachable by a 20-minute walk from the restaurant. A dirt road ascends to the right of the second chairlift.
4. **Launch 4**: Located in Carì village, below the tennis court at 1660 meters. This launch is technical but manageable.
The main landing site is in Faido, at 700 meters, equipped with a windsock and located south of the village entrance.
When flying from Carì to the valley, be cautious of the valley wind, which can be quite strong in the narrow valley. From 2300 meters, you can fly back to Carì, soar over Pizzo Campello, or follow the terrain north or south, staying above the tree line. The valley wind is usually strong enough to gain altitude easily. A flight to Faido at 700 meters is also an attractive option.
Weather conditions are crucial in this mountainous area near the Gotthard. Avoid flying if there is any suspicion of Föhn winds, as they can be hazardous. The presence of power lines, although visible, can be a distraction and a hazard for pilots.
Carì offers spectacular flights over chestnut forests, especially enjoyable in autumn. The small ski and hiking area is accessible by bus from Faido, followed by a train ride to the restaurant at Bertolin du Lèi at 2300 meters. The area promises high-altitude flights to Faido and exciting routes along the terrain.
