Description
The Duckabush River Valley in the USA offers a launch site with an elevation of 626-718 meters and a height difference of 620 meters. Historically, this site was regularly used for thermal soaring and small cross-country flights. There is an option to launch from a slightly higher point, which might provide better conditions. However, the launch area is relatively old and has some obstacles.
Currently, the site is less frequented due to access restrictions. Rayonier purchased the land surrounding the Jupiter launch in 2020, and in 2021, they implemented a policy requiring a costly hunting permit for access. This has significantly reduced the number of pilots using this site.
The Rainier Paragliding Club (RPC) is working on developing a new site in the Hamma Hamma Valley to replace the Jupiter Mountain site. Experienced pilots are expected to evaluate the new Hamma Hamma site in the spring of 2022. Updates on the new launch site will be provided on the RPC website.
