At an altitude of 1540 meters, this launch site is considered difficult. It is less frequently used than the south launch site but still sees significant activity compared to other locations. The site offers excellent soaring and thermal conditions, making it ideal for experienced pilots looking for good cross-country opportunities.
Located in Germany, this site has a flight area record of 194.7 km. The takeoff features a short natural ramp that requires a decisive launch run, with no room for aborting the start.
Brauneck, along with Wallberg, is one of the main mountains for paragliding near Munich. It can get crowded, and the flying conditions are challenging, especially when valley winds and thermals converge. This has earned Brauneck the nickname "Bockeck." Beginners are advised to start early and seek advice from the friendly local pilots or the flight school at the base station of the cable car.
The potential for long-distance flights exists but is not easy to achieve due to the challenging Bavarian conditions. Nonetheless, flights extending into the Engadin region have been accomplished.
