Description

Blizzard Mountain, located near Trail, BC, offers a paragliding and hang gliding site with an elevation launch of 4600 feet above sea level and a landing zone at 1700 feet above sea level. The site is suitable for both hang gliders and paragliders, with specific launch areas for each. The hang gliding launch is accessible via a road that crosses private property. It is crucial to contact Roy Plumber for access permissions and to follow the site procedures. The launch is a table-top ramp on the side of the road into a draw, and it is only launchable in west to slightly southwest wind conditions. Be aware that the winds tend to blow across the launch, making it a challenging site. For paragliders, there is a hike-up launch at 1800 feet above ground level, facing west. This launch is a grassy knob overlooking the valley below the top of Blizzard Mountain. For more information on this launch, contact Don Dejong. The landing zone is at Trail Airport, where pilots should land on the north side of the runway. The area offers a beautiful view over the Columbia River. Pilots must be aware of the Class 'E' airspace above 700 feet AGL and the Class E Control Zone up to 4400 feet ASL within a 5-mile radius of the airport. The airport's airband mandatory frequency is 123.20 MHz. The flying season varies, with spring and fall being the most favorable times to fly. Summer conditions are moderate, and winter is generally not suitable for flying. For weather briefings and HAGAR notifications, pilots can contact the FIC Advanced Weather Briefing at 1-866-WXBRIEF (1-866-992-7433) or the French service at 1-866-GOMETEO (1-866-466-3836).
