Conditions Optimales
Description
Andelsbuch/Bezau in Austria is a highly frequented paragliding site known for its excellent thermal soaring conditions and potential for cross-country (XC) flights. The site is operational year-round, with the best flying conditions typically found in winter and spring.
The launch site is situated at an altitude of 1685 meters, with a height difference of 950 meters. The area is renowned for its laminar ridge lift, making it a popular choice among paragliders. The thermal conditions along the ridge are particularly favorable in the spring months.
Access to the launch sites is facilitated by a chairlift from Andelsbuch and a gondola from Bezau. From the mountain station, a short hike leads to the expansive grassy launch area behind the mountain restaurant. The landing zone is conveniently located behind the parking area at the valley station. There is also a large landing field for hang gliders next to the main road.
Please note that there is a no-fly rule after 7 PM.
The Andelsbuch side is considered a summer flying haven, operational from April to September, with launch directions ranging from west to northeast. Conversely, the Bezau side is more suitable for winter flying or early morning summer flights, operational from September to April, with a south-facing launch direction.
On a beautiful weekend, up to 100 paragliders can be seen in the air simultaneously. Unfortunately, there have been fatal accidents due to collisions.
The Bezau launch site faces south, with takeoff options either next to the Baumgarten mountain station or after a 15-minute hike on the Niedere. Good conditions allow for significant altitude gains and XC flights towards the south (Seefluh, Hirschberg, Diedamskopf, etc.).
The Andelsbuch launch site faces northwest, offering dynamic ridge lift for extended soaring sessions during the summer. Both Bezau and Andelsbuch have spacious landing zones. Pilots must adhere to the landing pattern and avoid flying over the cable car.
In Bezau, a northwest wind can sometimes blow at the launch site even in winter, requiring careful navigation to avoid the lee side. In Andelsbuch, caution is advised with eastern winds due to rotor turbulence west of the launch site, which has caused severe accidents.
For more information on the cable car services, visit: [Bergbahnen Bezau](http://www.bergbahnen-bezau.at) or call (05514) 2254.
The dynamic ridge lift conditions allow for hours of soaring and altitude gains, making it a must-visit site for paragliding enthusiasts.
