This site is primarily used for hike & fly and is now rarely utilized, suitable for small to medium flights. Originally developed as a hang gliding launch site in 2006, it is now seldom flown.
On the other side of the tree group, it should also be possible to launch towards the east.

Flight
For flight students: Head towards Mels.
For others: Head towards Gonzen or the Churfirsten.
Difficulty
Possible turbulence at the landing site in Wangs during Bise conditions. Various cable cars and cables are located on the southeastern slope below Palfries (see situational plan). Valley winds can be strong and unpredictable.

Palfries is located above Mels / Sargans, below the Churfirsten race track in the canton of St. Gallen.
There are two launch sites at Palfries. Both are marked with a windsock. Paragliders preferably use the Tschuggen launch site (in the picture, No. 1) and hang gliders use the Palfriesbahn launch site (No. 2). Launches outside these marked areas should be avoided.
The Palfries cable car to the flight area is currently out of operation.
