The paragliding site at Winden/Gupfe in Aitern, Germany, is a popular spot for thermal and soaring flights, with some opportunities for cross-country flying. The site is used year-round, but it is particularly favorable during the winter months when strong valley winds pick up around 1:00 PM.
Please be aware of local and seasonal restrictions. Specifically, there is a flying ban at the Utzenfluh cliffs from the end of February to June to protect bird habitats.
The launch site is situated at an elevation of 879 meters, with a height difference of 321 meters. The take-off direction is south. The area is managed by the Gleitschirmclub Wiesental e.V. When visiting, make sure to follow the current rules and guidelines. There is no windsock at the launch site, and the east side is forested. Pay close attention to the information board at the launch site and avoid flying low or soaring at the "Große Utzenfluh" cliffs from the end of February to early June to protect the birds.
Do not disturb the livestock at the launch site. Top landing is possible. During the months of April to June, avoid soaring at the cliffs of the "Utzenfluh" protected area above the landing zone. The best time to fly is during the winter months when strong valley winds start around 1:00 PM.
To get there, take the B317 towards Belchen through Aitern to the sawmill, then turn right towards Rollsbach until you reach the parking lot at the highest point near the large shed. From there, it's a 10-minute walk up the hill to the launch site. Always close the gates behind you, even if you find them open.
